What is Key Result confidence?
One of the best things about OKRs is that they are a very quantitative, unbiased way to track goals and measure success.
When you quantify your goals through key results, there is no much room for interpration. If you decided that you will get 20 customer testimonials, than you progress is pretty clear – regardless if you have collected 4 or 15 of them.
The human element
While OKR practicioners are all about numbers, everyone understands that progress is not always linear and it’s not always simple to calculate it. To this end, in Gtmhub we have a concept of the key result confidence.
The sales target example
If you have ever worked in sales, especially enterprise sales, you will know that majority of your deals will close in the last month, if not last two weeks of any given quarter.
So, imagine that your key result is to close $500,000 of new deals in a quarter. Month and a half into the quarter, you have only closed $100,000 of deals. Your key result will look pretty bad – after 50% of the time, your attainment is only 20% – but, you know that your deal pipeline is good and that you will make it.
To make planning better and prevent widespread panic, there should be a way where one can communicate this nuance.
Enter key result confidence
To augment the brutal coldness of math, Gtmhub provides you with a way to manually enter key result confidence, communicating to everyone why you think something will happen or not.
Setting the key result confidence and explaining your logic
By default, Gtmhub uses the standard OKRs practice of grading on the scale between 0.0 and 1.0
The key result confidence is the first-class citizen in Gtmhub and you can query, filter and sort OKRs by the confidence.
Defining your own KR confidence scale
Not everyone finds the somewhat geeky 0.0 to 1.0 scale most intuitive. That is why at Gtmhub we offer you the ability to set your own scale on which key results can be graded.
You can go to Settings > Methodology > Edit confidence scaling to choose the scale that fits your team the best. There are three basic types of scales:
For each of the scales, you can define as few or as many steps as you wish. For example, at Gtmhub for our own OKRs we use emojis with following setup:
